Sustainable Supply Chains & AI Infrastructure

Thursday 24 September · Globant offices, 251 Park Avenue · morning

Every other track this week asks what AI can do for the planet. This one asks what it costs.

The digital sector has spent a decade positioning itself as the enabler of everyone else's decarbonisation, and the case is strong. It also runs the fastest-growing electricity demand on earth: data centres are projected to consume around 945 TWh by 2030, roughly double their 2024 load and just under 3% of global electricity. Behind that sits a supply chain of minerals, components, water and freight that most reporting still does not reach.

One panel looks upstream — where emissions and social risk actually sit, what suppliers can be asked to disclose, and what happens to a Scope 3 target when demand grows this fast. The other looks at the build-out: siting, energy, water, heat and grid constraints.

An industry claiming credit for other people's targets has to answer for its own.
