John VanD. Lewis (BA Columbia College 1969, PhD, Anthropology, Yale University 1979) here.
Before becoming Global Director of Agriculture at USAID (1994-2000), after prior overseas postings (Mali, Haiti) with USAID, I was seconded (1990-1994) to a Sahel donors “Culb” at the OECD. There we all got very taken up with the Rio Earth Summit (1992) and at least two of the conventions derived from it: UNFCCC of course but in our case also assisting in the drafting of the UNCCD - the only Rio Convention to get completely ratified by the US Senate. Since retiring from USAID (2001), after four “quarantine” years as Executive Director at two New York based NGOs (Near East Foundation & ProNatura USA), I became one of the founding partners of TerraGlobalCapital.com in the SF Bay Area. Since retirement from TGC (2016), I have assisted other start ups (DuguSystems, Inc., Climate Securities & GENA in Peru) in this land use carbon space. I attended, still as part of the ProNatura International delegation, every UNFCCC COP between Montreal and Dubai.
